The appeal of pastel drawing is the interaction between the paper and the pastels, the physical resistance as I draw across the paper. This drawing experience can’t be replicated digitally on a tablet.
I tend to work with the block shapes of the pastels to define light, shape and form. Coloured paper gives the drawing a base tone to then build highlights and shade upon.
