Working in Charcoal gives me the freedom to develop tone, texture and form quickly. The quality of line strokes and weight varies as the charcoal sticks do – it’s a natural material to work with, each piece having its own unique character. Reworking drawings is fast, easy, more forgiving on the eye, often giving pleasing results by accident.
For me Conté is great medium for exploring tone and form, working with rough and textured paper creates interesting effects. There’s a beautiful natural feeling as you draw across the paper with Conté crayons.
